These leaps in efficiency have made their way into education through tools like NoteKnight. In this article, we’ll show you how to use NoteKnight’s flagship tool, Autoscribe, to extract key points from your documents and streamline your flashcard creation process!
AI Flashcards
Autoscribe automatically generates high-quality flashcards from your documents using advanced AI models from OpenAI. To get started, navigate to the user dashboard, click the Create button in the top left, and select Autoscribe. On the next page, upload a Word, PowerPoint, or PDF document for text extraction. Once uploaded, Autoscribe will identify key information and generate a diverse set of flashcards, including fill-in-the-blank, definitions, true/false, and question-answer formats without any need for configuration. This approach is superior to our competitors, showcasing the AI’s creative strengths and providing comprehensive and engaging study material.
Review
Once the flashcards are generated, you’ll be redirected to the Review page. From here, you can casually view the material from the flashcard carousel and quickly scroll through the entire deck with the table of contents below. While AI is a powerful tool, it's important to remember that it isn't perfect. AI can sometimes generate inaccurate information, known as "hallucinations" (IBM, 2024). If you need to make adjustments or additions, you can do so by selecting the Edit button below the carousel.
Editing
Editing your newly created flashcards is simple with NoteKnight’s smart tools. Click into the text area you'd like to work on, and your rich editing toolbar will appear. Some of the more unique editing tools from NoteKnight include:
- AI Assistant: NoteKnight has embedded an AI assistant directly into the workspace, allowing you to enhance and customize your content without switching between tools or applications. If you highlight content in the editor, that content will be processed in the AI request. If nothing is selected, the AI response will be inserted into the editor, appending to any existing content.
- AI Commands: A list of AI commands is also located directly adjacent to the assistant button on the toolbar. Quickly access common prompts such as translating text into multiple languages and summarizing lengthy passages into concise information. For a fun and engaging touch, try the emojify command to make your flashcards more interesting 🥳.
- Cloze Creation: NoteKnight has a unique feature for making fill-in-the-blank flashcards. From the editor toolbar, find the blank space button (half moon icon). Highlight the text you’d like to remove and click the button. The text will be copied to the clipboard and replaced with underscores. You can paste the copied text into the next flashcard field if desired. If no text is selected, you can quickly add underscores to create a blank space for your flashcard!
While editing, your modifications will be autosaved and will be accessible from your user dashboard marked as a [Draft] in the instance you don’t complete your session. Once you’re satisfied with your revisions, you can complete your set by clicking the Save button at the top or bottom of the page. You will be redirected back to the Review page.
Memorize
When you are satisfied with your AI-generated flashcards, you can start studying with NoteKnight’s memorization game. Locate the Learn button found on the Review page under the flashcard carousel. This game helps reinforce learning by challenging your active recall, which is a proven technique to enhance retention. NoteKnight makes it easy to switch between different input methods and employs sorting algorithms for shuffling and reversing card orders to keep you guessing!
